Membership Eligibility

Thank you for your interest in joining the Mississippi Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). Our organization is comprised of trial lawyers who embody high personal character, maintain an honorable reputation, and are dedicated to upholding the principles of justice in the legal profession.

High Personal Character and Honorable Reputation

A commitment to the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and integrity.

Bar Membership

A member of the Bar of the State, province, district, territory, or country in which they practice.

Trial Experience

Must have tried at least 10 civil jury trials to jury verdict or hung jury as lead counsel

Membership Invitation:

Membership in ABOTA is by invitation only. We extend invitations to trial lawyers who meet stringent criteria and have demonstrated exceptional trial advocacy skills. If you have received an invitation, we congratulate you on your achievements in the legal field.

Qualifications For Membership:

To be eligible for membership, a trial lawyer must meet the following criteria:

  1. High Personal Character and Honorable Reputation: Prospective members should exhibit a commitment to the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and integrity.
  2. Bar Membership: Applicants must be a member of the Bar of the State, province, district, territory, or country in which they practice.
  3. Trial Experience: Regardless of the number of trial experience equivalency points, an applicant must have tried at least 10 civil jury trials to jury verdict or hung jury as lead counsel. All relevant civil jury trials must be listed on the application.

Application Process:

  1. Nomination: Prospective members must be nominated by existing ABOTA members or self-nominate.
  2. Local Chapter Approval: All applications must be approved by the local Chapter of ABOTA. Our dedicated members review each application to ensure it meets our high standards.
  3. Initiation Fees and Dues: Upon nomination and election, prospective members are required to pay initiation fees and annual dues.
